The Power of Yes

“Hey…. I’m just saying ‘yes’ to life… ‘cause… you gotta say ‘yes’ to life…. I’m in a secret covenant…..”

Jim Carrey in Yes Man.

I won’t ask you to go watch this movie if you haven’t seen it (though it is pretty cute and funny), but it does have a good basic idea that could teach many of us a bit of a lesson. Anyways, I watched this movie not too long ago and it had me thinking of the actual power yes has. Where saying yes can take us. And of course Kait and I (Austi) here at His Yes Girls are striving to live a yes filled life!

Now, I am not talking about following the basic summary of the movie and just saying yes to every single thing that comes along. But saying yes to God when he asks us to do certain things for Him and saying yes to those opportunities that God places in front of us.

Saying yes to opportunities may seem like a “DUH” response. However, we likLOOKHEREe to think these opportunities will have big flashy ‘LOOK HERE’ signs with arrows pointing to another sign that reads ‘TAKE ME’! Then we think that we will take that gleaming opportunity and frolic through a field of daisies and everything will be all sparkly and shiny, and birds will be singing, butterflies floating and bunnies hopping around…yadda, yadda, yadda…..(Sorry for all the metaphors)

Well, from my experience the opportunities that God puts into place for us or the things God asks us to do may not always seem like the most pleasant of experiences. Sometimes an opportunity or request may be unclear or it might even be daunting. But what we have got to learn to do is to say yes no matter what! Because although what God asks us to do may seem overwhelming or unclear He will be there every step of the way holding our hand and guiding us to the end.

Psalm 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of darkness, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Sometimes we have to go through difficult and trying times to get the end result; the goal that God has for us. That is why God has given us His rod and a staff: the light of His Word and of the Holy Spirit. Because no matter what monsters might be creeping in the dark shadows around us we are protected and we have His Light to shine our way through it all.

I personally believe that life is an adventure; and it wouldn’t be an adventure without a few high and low points along the way!

Don’t get me wrong, as long as we stay by His side I know there is a ton more high points than low! We just have to be prepare ourselves with the Word for every single one. And by saying yes to one thing God asks us to do we are opening the door for many more opportunities! And sometimes these requests and opportunities are perfectly clear, exciting and fall right in our paths.  And God promises to give us His kingdom if we just say YES to Him!

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

So join us in a ‘Secret Covenant‘ of saying YES to God!
