Her Worth Is Far Above Rubies

virtuous-having or showing high moral standards

God created and designed men and women, and had specific expectations for us both. In a culture where finding a virtuous woman is a penny a dozen I really wanted to look inward and focus in on what exactly a virtuous woman is in God’s eyes. I want to be everything God created me to be and Proverbs 31:10-31 gives us the epitome of a virtuous woman. Here are a few key verses that give us a distinct picture;

Proverbs 31:10
Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
……
20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
…..
25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
….

This woman who is described in Proverbs 31 is a wife that entrusts her husband with no reservations, she treats him generously and with love at all times. No spitefulness is ever in her words or mind. She wakes early and is eager to get started with the days work, she knows that her job in the household is important and is in no hurry to call it quits for the day. She is eager and quick to help those that are in need, always facing tomorrow with a smile, no worry and no fear. When she speaks, it is something worthwhile and something kind. She does not gossip because she is too busy keeping her family productive. Her children love and respect her and they rise up, her husband sings her praises.

1 Corinthians 1:4-6 Every time I think of you—and I think of you often!—I thank God for your lives of free and open access to God, given by Jesus. There’s no end to what has happened in you—it’s beyond speech, beyond knowledge. The evidence of Christ has been clearly verified in your lives
The Message

This is the type of wife I want to be when I am married, the type of woman I want to be now. I want to do all things with joy and be the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. I want this type of marriage, where I trust and respect my husband and where he sees me as joyful and gentle, so he sings my praises and loves me endlessly. This is the way that God created men and women to live together in harmony, the way one generation of women raises up the next. When we as women can come together and be who God created us to be I truly think men will step up to the plate and be the gentlemen and leaders that God created them to be. Let us have higher standards for ourselves and those women around us, that we do not sit around and gossip but that we glorify God in all that we do, that we are so lost in Him that whomever we marry has to seek and find God to find our heart. Let us have the light of God shine so brightly through us, that those that know us, see us and wonder what is different. I stand on the promises that God has made me and I will strive to become the woman He has created me to be.
Virtuous women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.

Titus 2:1-6Your job is to speak out on the things that make for solid doctrine. Guide older men into lives of temperance, dignity, and wisdom, into healthy faith, love, and endurance. Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.

  2. I love that you said that we should be her before we are married, if we want to be her after we are married we have to strive to be her before we are married.
